1XI wk 2

Match | Mon 13-Oct-2014 1:20pm
Cougars 1st XI 8/155 dec defeated North Balwyn 144. Resuming the day at 2/75 the general consensus was that the game would be over one way or the other by drinks and subsequently tee time bookings for 3 groups of 4 were made at Kingston Links for 2:37, 2:45 and 2:53pm. Andrew Wright held up his end of the bargain knocking up a solid 52 and along with Super-K who made 30-odd the game looked safe. Wrighty knocked one to cover on the full and hit the showers bringing Timmsy to the crease. He survived the longest appeal of all time first ball with many from the sidelines remarking that from side on, 70+ metres away it really looked out. He departed shortly after slapping a couple of boundaries and received a send off scoring 5.5's all round from the judges. This sparked a mini collapse involving a handful of edges behind the wicket from K, Jason Combridge and Nev. Jason Barrie guided the team home with a superb cameo, blasting a number of boundaries including a six that unofficially measured 107m. Tyler Walsh batted on after passing the score and forgot to wear his glasses out to the middle. He nearly touched one with the bat, but didn't and ended up skittled for a quacker. He graciously let Shane MacGregor get most of the way out to the middle with all his gear on before declaring the innings closed and arvo tea served. Rick Alabaster, Naqi Haider, Macca and myself all not required this week and looking for a refund on our $5. Wrighty was not only best on the field but also best off it and broke his duck of never having spoken to an opposition after a game. With a 50 and a 3-for in his pocket he parked himself amongst the NBCC boys and reminisced about his delicious shot-making. All in all a great start to the season, good to win and great to see Michael Muttiah rocking the full, official president's match day attire.
