2XI RD 11

Match | Fri 13-Feb-2015 6:37am
Cougars 2nd XI vs Balwyn. Resuming the day needing 3 wickets for victory. Balwyn resumed on 7/72 chasing 175. An early wicket and Balwyn were 8/82, still needing 13 more runs to avoid the follow on, unfortunately they had a partnership and we didn't claim the 9th wicket for 14 overs and then the 10th fell quickly after, Balwyn all out for 131, Cougars 44 runs ahead on 1st innings. All 3 wickets were claimed by 'The Destroyer' from last week Josh Buzz Edwards who finished with outstanding figures of 8/32 of 16.1 overs. We then set out to set a target for Balwyn, off to a good start until Andrew Celle fell for 19 and we were 1/36 of 7 overs, we then lost another 2 quick wickets to be 3/54 after 10 overs. Needing to keep the momentum Nev Sinnott 64 n/o & Warren Page 52 n.o put on 96 in 11 overs before we declared 3/150, an overall lead of 194 and 32 overs to try and claim the outright. A few bowlers down this week we set out to try and claim maximum points. Max Roberts struck early and we had Balwyn 1/15 in the 3rd over. After that Balwyn got on a bit of a roll and we struggled to stem the run flow, they were having a crack at the runs required for reverse outright, they got to 4/160 with 6 overs remaining. They needed less than a run a ball to claim victory. Staring down the barrel of the un-thinkable Josh Edwards and max Roberts held their nerve in the final overs to restrict them to 8/192 off the 32 overs, Max Robert 3/70, Josh Edwards 1/56, Wes Howell 1/57 & 3 run outs. A little too close for comfort and happy to take the 6 points. Our focus turns to next week, a must win game 3rd vs 4th. Cricket a very interesting game........
