Whilst still teaching in country Victoria, Robert made enquiries regarding the Glen Waverley Church of Christ Cricket Club, and on his appointment to the city, immediately signed and commenced playing with the 1st XI in 1975/76.

The following season Robert won the 1st XI batting average and made a fine 82 in the Grand Final which the team narrowly lost. Robert was a dashing opening bat and brilliant cover fieldsman.

In 1996/97 Robert accepted the Assistant Coaching role with the U/12 team and so commenced a distinguishing coaching career spanning 16 seasons.

During this period the U/12 and U/13 teams have won four premierships and featured in seven finals series under Robert’s guidance, with the support of other coaches.

In addition to involvement with the Cougar boys, he also coached two league sides in the Mitchell Shield competition. Robert remains a keen supporter of the Cougars and is a regular spectator of their matches.

Rob now has the U/13 “MVP” trophy named in his honour.
