2XI Semi Final

Match | Tue 10-Mar-2015 1:40pm
Day 1 2nd XI vs Glen Waverley. We won the toss and batted first, runs on the board is vital in any final. Nev Sinnott & Brad Edwards got us off to a great start putting on 43 of 15 overs before Nev fell for 31. Brad & Pagey knuckled down to make sure we didn't loose two quick wickets and when Brad went out for a solid 30 we were 2/90 off 28 overs. A very solid start. With 40 minutes to tea it was about maintaining wickets in hand, we went to tea at 3/118 off 38 overs. Sometimes the break is welcomed but it halted our momentum and we lost 4/30 after tea to slump to 7/148 after 50 overs. Pagey was doing a stellar job batting on with a strained hamstring, fingers crossed it isn't too bad. Max Roberts & Pagey got us back on track with a solid partnership of 40 for the 8th wicket. We batted on and unfortunately Pagey fell 12 runs short of the magical milestone, however a very solid knock of 88 helped us reach 206. Runs on the board and on a big ground very defendable. We had 6 overs to bowl and Kusal Pathiraja had the batsmen jumping, ducking and even checking their strides after they whizzed past their noses, that was some serious heat!!!!! We didn't get the break through, however we put the doubt in their mind that they need to come back Monday and make another 194 for victory. Day 2 Arriving at the ground with a positive mind set it didn't go to plan even before we went out to field with Wes Howell coping a ball in the eye, nice shiner by the end of the day. We really needed to get early wickets and we claimed an early wicket removing one of the openers in the 5th over of the day with a great catch from Chip MacGregor at backward square leg. Unfortunately it didn't really go our way with all the edges and miss hits being out of reach, a stumping & runout turned down but were very close. We just couldn't get that break through we needed and they were 2/161 at tea. After tea we needed wickets and again no luck, we claimed 2 late wickets but all too late. Glen Waverley winning with 6 wickets in hand, 206 vs 4/212. A big thanks for Andrew Wright in sub-fielding today for Pagey, it was much appreciated. However all the if's, buts or maybe's won't change the result. We had a competitive year and it was great to play with all the 36 players who played throughout the season in the 2's. Have a great off season and lets seek redemption in 2015/16!!!
